From beginner, to advanced, to officer, I've grown in my passion and leadership skills throughout the four years that I have participated with the Swing Kids. As an officer, I helped organize dance events, communicate with UW administration, and teach dance routines to members of the club. As I reflect on my time here at UW, I have come to realize how impactful it has been to be a leader of the swing dance community. Not only did I gain valuable leadership experience, I also developed a new skill unlike anything else I had ever done before. I never thought I would come to UW and become a dancer! Now, I have followed my passion for dancing from Swing Dance to Salsa Club, and I have friends asking for me to join them in Electro-Swing as well.

This experience has dramatically improved my public speaking skills, my interpersonal relationships, and my confidence in a position of influence. I found a community I feel like I belong in, and I added members of my little Seattle family through Swing Dance.

Ultimately, my Husky Experience would have been entirely different - and less meaningful- if I hadn't taken the leap to become a Swing Kids officer. I have enjoyed so many lessons, meals, and dances with the Swing Kids who have become a cornerstone in my life story. I'll skip, spin, and twirl my way into the future, with fond memories of the people I met to guide me forward.
